La iniciativa surge tras recientes operativos de agentes federales de ICE en barrios como Jackson Heights, Queens, que han generado alarma entre la comunidad migrante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los proyectos buscan no solo bloquear la colaboraci\u00f3n entre agencias municipales y autoridades federales de inmigraci\u00f3n, sino tambi\u00e9n empoderar a los afectados para que puedan demandar a la ciudad si sus derechos son violados. Adem\u00e1s, se propone limitar el uso discriminatorio del sistema E-Verify, utilizado para verificar el estatus migratorio de los empleados.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La concejal Alexa Avil\u00e9s, presidenta del Comit\u00e9 de Migraci\u00f3n, destac\u00f3 la urgencia de aprobar estas protecciones antes de que finalice el a\u00f1o. \u00abNo hay tiempo que perder en estos momentos de violencia, corrupci\u00f3n y negligencia\u00bb, afirm\u00f3. Uno de los proyectos exige a la alcald\u00eda colocar letreros en propiedades municipales que informen a las personas sobre sus derechos al interactuar con autoridades federales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Otra de las propuestas, la Ley de Confianza de la Ciudad de Nueva York (NYC Trust Act), permitir\u00eda a cualquier persona afectada por la colaboraci\u00f3n de una agencia municipal con ICE interponer demandas para exigir rendici\u00f3n de cuentas.
