Seg\u00fan la fiscal Jeanine Ferris Pirro, Cordero habr\u00eda aceptado miles de d\u00f3lares para facilitar visas estadounidenses a ciudadanos extranjeros, violando las leyes migratorias y la confianza en su cargo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pirro declar\u00f3: \u00abEste funcionario traicion\u00f3 la confianza del gobierno estadounidense al usar su posici\u00f3n para beneficio personal. Sus acciones son inaceptables y ser\u00e1n perseguidas con todo el peso de la ley\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cordero, de 47 a\u00f1os, llevaba seis a\u00f1os en la Embajada de EE.UU. en Rep\u00fablica Dominicana. Los documentos de acusaci\u00f3n indican que recibi\u00f3 sobornos para ayudar a extranjeros a obtener visas. En al menos un caso, habr\u00eda entregado un pasaporte y una visa a cambio de dinero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adem\u00e1s, Cordero \u00abagiliz\u00f3 119 solicitudes de visa\u00bb, algunas fraudulentas, y asesor\u00f3 a solicitantes sobre c\u00f3mo superar las entrevistas consulares, lo que constituye una violaci\u00f3n grave de los protocolos migratorios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El administrador de la DEA, Terrance Cole, conden\u00f3 las acciones de Cordero y reafirm\u00f3 el compromiso de la agencia con la \u00e9tica: \u00abEste caso no refleja el trabajo honorable de los miles de agentes que trabajan con honor. Tomaremos medidas para garantizar que la corrupci\u00f3n no tenga cabida en la DEA\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La investigaci\u00f3n involucra a la Oficina de Investigaciones de Seguridad Nacional (Newark y Santo Domingo), el Servicio de Seguridad Diplom\u00e1tica del Departamento de Estado, la Oficina del Inspector General del Departamento de Justicia y la DEA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El arresto de Cordero coincide con el cierre temporal de la oficina de la DEA en Santo Domingo, anunciado por la embajadora Leah Francis Campos.
