Cordero, de 47 a\u00f1os, fue arrestado el pasado 12 de febrero acusado de tramitar 119 visas fraudulentas, cobrando hasta $10,000 por cada tr\u00e1mite. Seg\u00fan las investigaciones, Cordero presentaba a los solicitantes como \u00abinformantes confidenciales\u00bb de la DEA, aunque en realidad no lo eran, lo que les permit\u00eda obtener visas para ingresar a Estados Unidos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La reapertura de la oficina se realizar\u00e1 bajo un nuevo liderazgo y con la implementaci\u00f3n de auditor\u00edas internas para evitar futuros casos de corrupci\u00f3n. Campos asegur\u00f3 que \u00abla corrupci\u00f3n no tiene cabida en el Gobierno de EE.UU.\u00bb y que se tomar\u00e1n medidas para restaurar la integridad y la confianza en los programas de la agencia. Adem\u00e1s, se revisar\u00e1n todos los tr\u00e1mites de visas realizados en los \u00faltimos dos a\u00f1os para detectar posibles irregularidades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El caso de Melit\u00f3n Cordero ha generado preocupaci\u00f3n en Rep\u00fablica Dominicana, donde la DEA juega un papel fundamental en la lucha contra el narcotr\u00e1fico. Cordero enfrenta cargos de fraude, tr\u00e1fico de influencias y obstrucci\u00f3n a la justicia, y su primera comparecencia, inicialmente programada para el 6 de marzo, fue aplazada al 6 de abril debido a un cambio en su representaci\u00f3n legal.
