El observatorio de la NASA y la Agencia Espacial Europea tom\u00f3 varias im\u00e1genes del fen\u00f3meno el pasado 22 de octubre, cuando el planeta anillado se encontraba a 1.365 millones de kil\u00f3metros de la Tierra.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conocidas como \u00abcu\u00f1as radiales\u00bb o \u00abradios\u00bb porque se orientan radialmente, estas manchas aparecen siempre en el anillo B, el m\u00e1s ancho de los anillos de Saturno. Son temporales, tienen un tono m\u00e1s claro o m\u00e1s oscuro que el propio anillo y giran junto a \u00e9l.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Las cu\u00f1as radiales fueron observadas por primera vez cuando la sonda espacial Voyager 2 de la NASA sobrevol\u00f3 Saturno en 1981. Aunque su origen no est\u00e1 del todo claro, los astr\u00f3nomos creen que son part\u00edculas de hielo y polvo levitando por efecto de las fuerzas electromagn\u00e9ticas que genera el campo magn\u00e9tico del planeta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Antes de que los anillos desaparezcan<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-dailymotion wp-block-embed-dailymotion wp-embed-aspect-4-3 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"El telescopio espacial Hubble observa manchas en los anillos de Saturno\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"640\" height=\"481\" src=\"https:\/\/geo.dailymotion.com\/player.html?video=x8qsw38&#038;\" allowfullscreen allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; web-share\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Las cu\u00f1as de radio aparecen cerca del equinoccio de primavera u oto\u00f1o de Saturno, y estamos en plena temporada. El telescopio Hubble las observ\u00f3 en el lado izquierdo del anillo en 2021, y las volvi\u00f3 a observar en 2022. Ahora son m\u00e1s numerosas y est\u00e1n a ambos lados, lo que confirma que hemos entrado en el periodo de mayor actividad, en el que estas cu\u00f1as se forman continuamente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Son temporales: su apariencia fantasmag\u00f3rica dura apenas dos o tres rotaciones alrededor del planeta anillado. Pero pueden ser enormes: aunque la escala de Saturno nos enga\u00f1e, una sola cu\u00f1a puede tener el di\u00e1metro de toda la Tierra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Saturno tarda unos 29 a\u00f1os y medio en dar la vuelta al Sol, por lo que sus equinoccios tienen lugar cada 15 a\u00f1os. El pr\u00f3ximo equinoccio ocurrir\u00e1 en 2025, lo que explica la aparici\u00f3n de tantas cu\u00f1as radiales en su anillo. Pero el equinoccio tiene un efecto mucho m\u00e1s notable en Saturno para los observadores terrestres y es que sus anillos se ponen de perfil, desapareciendo de nuestra vista.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mat\u00edas S.
