Situado a 283 a\u00f1os luz de la Tierra, WASP-43b es lo que se conoce como un \u00abJ\u00fapiter caliente\u00bb, un planeta de tama\u00f1o similar a J\u00fapiter que orbita su estrella a una distancia mucho menor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>WASP-43b se encuentra a 2,1 millones de kil\u00f3metros de la estrella WASP-43. Una distancia tan sorprendentemente corta que completa una \u00f3rbita en apenas 19 horas terrestres, lo que provoca rachas de viento de 9.000 kil\u00f3metros por hora. Pero ese no es su principal problema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Un clima extremo. El estrecho abrazo entre WASP-43b y su estrella ha provocado el bloqueo por mareas del planeta, lo que significa que una de sus caras apunta siempre a la estrella.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El lado que mira a la estrella se est\u00e1 cociendo a unos abrasadores 1.250 grados \u00baC capaces de fundir el aluminio. La cara que da la espalda a la estrella vive una noche eterna a una temperatura no mucho m\u00e1s agradable: 600 \u00baC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Por qu\u00e9 hace tanto calor de noche. Por los vientos hiper-huracanados que mencion\u00e1bamos antes, y que transportan material vaporizado, como roca fundida, del lado diurno al lado nocturno. El material se enfr\u00eda y se condensa en gotas l\u00edquidas, formando nubes de roca fundida observables a trav\u00e9s del telescopio Webb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El telescopio espacial tambi\u00e9n ha permitido caracterizar la composici\u00f3n atmosf\u00e9rica del planeta, y no solo ha confirmado la presencia de vapor de agua a ambos, sino tambi\u00e9n la ausencia de metano. Los vientos evitan la formaci\u00f3n de este gas, que es muy com\u00fan en los J\u00fapiter calientes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Planetas extra\u00f1os. El equipo del Webb us\u00f3 su c\u00e1mara del infrarrojo medio (MIRI) para observar las variaciones de luz a ambos lados del inh\u00f3spito planeta, y luego hizo un seguimiento con el espectr\u00f3metro del infrarrojo cercano (NIRSpec).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los hallazgos demuestran una vez lo verdaderamente extra\u00f1os que pueden ser los planetas fuera de nuestro sistema solar.
