Chan de Harvard ha creado un mapa exhaustivo de los genes esenciales para las infecciones sangu\u00edneas en &#8216;Plasmodium knowlesi&#8217; (&#8216;P. knowlesi&#8217;), el par\u00e1sito causante de la malaria en humanos. Publicado en la revista &#8216;Sciencie&#8217;, este mapa es la clasificaci\u00f3n m\u00e1s completa de genes esenciales de cualquier especie de &#8216;Plasmodium&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El mapa gen\u00e9tico identifica dianas farmacol\u00f3gicas y mecanismos de resistencia a f\u00e1rmacos, lo que podr\u00eda ser fundamental para desarrollar nuevos tratamientos contra la malaria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00abEsperamos que nuestros hallazgos sean un paso importante en la investigaci\u00f3n y control de la malaria\u00bb, dijo Manoj Duraisingh, coautor del estudio y catedr\u00e1tico John La Porte de Inmunolog\u00eda y Enfermedades Infecciosas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La resistencia a los f\u00e1rmacos antipal\u00fadicos es un problema creciente, y este mapa gen\u00e9tico ofrece un recurso invaluable para combatir una de las principales causas de muerte por enfermedades infecciosas en el mundo. Anualmente, unos 249 millones de personas contraen malaria, resultando en unas 608.000 muertes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Los investigadores utilizaron la mutag\u00e9nesis de transposones para identificar los genes esenciales para el crecimiento del par\u00e1sito en los gl\u00f3bulos rojos humanos. Este enfoque permiti\u00f3 identificar genes espec\u00edficos que causan resistencia a los antipal\u00fadicos actuales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00abConocer los genes esenciales de &#8216;P. knowlesi&#8217; nos ayuda a entender las estrategias moleculares del par\u00e1sito para crecer y responder a tratamientos\u00bb, explic\u00f3 Sheena Dass, coautora del estudio.
