NUEVA YORK.<\/strong> La comunidad de Somerville, en Boston, conocida por su dinamismo, se ha convertido en un pueblo fantasma debido a las frecuentes redadas de la Polic\u00eda de Inmigraci\u00f3n y Protecci\u00f3n de Aduanas (ICE). Estos operativos han paralizado casi por completo la actividad econ\u00f3mica, afectando al comercio, el transporte, las escuelas, el turismo y el transporte, seg\u00fan medios de Nueva Inglaterra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El lunes por la tarde, negocios y calles de Somerville luc\u00edan desolados. La comunidad asegura que el miedo a los recientes operativos de agentes federales de inmigraci\u00f3n ha disminuido dr\u00e1sticamente la actividad comercial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Empleados de diversas tiendas en la calle Broadway, una zona comercial muy activa, reportan una significativa ca\u00edda en la clientela debido al temor a las redadas migratorias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEn los negocios se ha sentido el cambio\u201d, afirma el barbero dominicano Noe L\u00f3pez, quien trabaja en una barber\u00eda en el coraz\u00f3n comercial de Somerville. Desde que comenz\u00f3 el a\u00f1o, la clientela ha disminuido notablemente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLa gente no sale, con miedo\u201d, a\u00f1ade otro barbero dominicano, Marvi P\u00e9rez. \u201cHan bajado bastante. Como un 50 por ciento\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En otros negocios de la calle Broadway, la mayor\u00eda asegura que las ventas han ca\u00eddo hasta un 60 por ciento desde que comenzaron los operativos de los agentes federales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Para estos trabajadores, la situaci\u00f3n es cr\u00edtica y temen que empeore. Somerville es una ciudad santuario que recientemente ratific\u00f3 su compromiso con la comunidad inmigrante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Los due\u00f1os de restaurantes en East Boston tambi\u00e9n han notado una ca\u00edda en los clientes de su comunidad inmigrante, ya que muchos est\u00e1n preocupados por las redadas de ICE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abComo propietario de un negocio y residente de East Boston, estoy deprimido. El futuro no pinta bien\u00bb, dijo el propietario del restaurante BONO en la calle Meridian al canal WBZ-TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abEs como si hubiera una especie de miedo. No se ve tanto tr\u00e1fico peatonal. Las estaciones de tren est\u00e1n bastante vac\u00edas\u201d, agreg\u00f3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Calles y mesas de comedor vac\u00edas, recalc\u00f3 Rosas, desde que los agentes federales de inmigraci\u00f3n comenzaron a realizar redadas en Massachusetts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
