La sentencia se debe a su implicaci\u00f3n en la distribuci\u00f3n de narc\u00f3ticos dentro del centro, lo que result\u00f3 en la muerte de un ni\u00f1o por intoxicaci\u00f3n de fentanilo en 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mendez y su esposo, F\u00e9lix Herrera Garc\u00eda, fueron encontrados culpables de almacenar m\u00e1s de 11 kilogramos de fentanilo y hero\u00edna en trampillas bajo las baldosas de la sala de juegos. Este incidente caus\u00f3 la muerte de un ni\u00f1o y la hospitalizaci\u00f3n de otros tres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El fiscal federal interino, Matthew Podolsky, subray\u00f3 que la sentencia env\u00eda un mensaje contundente sobre la persecuci\u00f3n de quienes utilizan a ni\u00f1os como escudos en el tr\u00e1fico de drogas. Seg\u00fan The New York Times, Mendez borr\u00f3 miles de mensajes de texto y voz relacionados con el tr\u00e1fico de drogas tras ser interrogada inicialmente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En la audiencia de sentencia, Mendez se disculp\u00f3 con los padres del ni\u00f1o fallecido y expres\u00f3 estar traumatizada.
